This 20% discount applies only for her floral arrangements made by our designer, but not for delivery, set-up, or labor charges, nor for flowers purchased for DIY (design-it-yourself) wedding parties or loose flower purchases. Flower Tips
Re-cut the flower stems about 1 to 2 inches underwater using
a sharp knife every other day. By cutting the stems under water, the stems are
sealed with water and air cannot clog the stem cells with fewer bacteria to
form, thus, allowing the flowers to last a longer life! Also, cut the stems diagonally. By doing this, you more importantly create a greater
surface area for the flower to take in water and less importantly prevent less
surface area of the stem to rest on the bottom of the vase.

Memorial Day
On Memorial Day, it is tradition for some to place flowers
on the grave of those who have fallen while in service to our country. It is common to see families purchase flowers
in bulk (typically in red, white, or blue) to place on the gravesites of men
and women who have died while serving the United States. If families have
closer loved ones who have died while serving, larger pieces such as a wreath
is typical for a gravesite. Flowers are a perfect way to help express the
emotions of those who are still living. To
quote author Norah T. Hunter, “Flower arranging is an art form that enhances
the quality of life. From birth to death flowers and floral arrangements heal
sadness and sorrow and give comfort to the living. Flowers give inspiration and hope in times of
illness and despair. They express
emotions from deep within the soul, that often cannot be expressed with words.
Symbolic of life and vitality, fresh flowers celebrate the happy and joyous
occasions of life” (The Art of Floral Design).
This Memorial Day, remember your fallen service men and women in some
fashion whether it be placing a flower on a gravesite, taking a moment of silence,
or flying your flag at half-mast.

What is Blooming at Sparks Florist?
Red Worm Organics here at Sparks Florist is running at full speed! At the beginning of planting season, everyone is focusing on what to plant for the spring and summer to come and hoping for a fruitful return. If you are using buckets or bins to plant in, did you change the soil? Did you add any new compost to your garden soil this year? How do you know beneficial material hasn't been watered out of both the bins and gardens?
Worm castings or vermicompost contains beneficial microorganisms that help the soil amend itself back to its natural state. The organic material that worms eat is broken down by microorganisms and earthworms into a humus-like material, much of which has passed through the digestive tract of the worm. This material is similar to regular compost, but contains much more microbial activity, which makes it ideal for a soil amendment.
Using Red Worm Organics Worm Castings Results in less dependence on chemical fertilizers, as it adds natural material back into the soil. You will see healthier plants, which have longer lives, and are more disease resistant. Come by Sparks Florist and pick up some Red Worm Organics Worm Castings to try some for yourself! Call (775) 200-2933
