An Open Letter to Sparks Florist Customers About Deceptive Practices

April 12, 2013

Dear Sparks Florist Customer,
Sparks Florist has been working with Nevada State Senator Debbie Smith of Sparks to enact a law requiring that non-local floral businesses clearly state the address of their business in their internet ads and phone directories.

In the flower business, there are companies known as deceptive order gatherers who are located out of state, but advertise as if local.  Often, their trick is to make it seem as if they actually are a given real local florist.  This has happened to a surprisingly large number of Sparks Florist customers when they landed on a deceptive advertiser’s website, thinking that they were on our website at www.sparksflorist.com

Here are two internet ads that I copied directly from a Google search on “sparks florist” that serve as concrete examples:

Although Sparks Florist had neither knowledge of, nor anything at all to do with these transactions, some of our customers thought poorly of us because they were very disappointed with the results. Once they informed us of their experience, and we discovered the cause, we were able to explain it, but the disappointment remained.

If this happened to you, and you are willing to provide written testimony that we can use to support S.B. 404, please email me all of the details at mike@sparksflorist.com

In return, I’ll send you a free voucher for one of our fun DIY Design Classes to compensate you for your trouble
.

S.B. 404 soon will be presented to the State Senate and you can help us by
contacting Nevada State Senators.  You can read the bill at:  Senate Bill 404.  A list of Nevada State Senators can be found at: Nevada State Senators.
Please remember to enter www.sparksflorist.com in your browser to get to our website.  You know us and trust us because we have been your “Your Personal Florist” for over 53 years.  We sincerely appreciate your business, and thank you for your kind consideration and the help you might provide in this matter.

Sincerely,

This 20% discount applies only for her floral arrangements made by our designer, but not for delivery, set-up, or labor charges, nor for flowers purchased for DIY (design-it-yourself) wedding parties or loose flower purchases. For example, if a bride-to-be decides to make her own reception centerpieces, but asks our designer to make the bridal bouquet (or other arrangements), this discount applies for the bridal bouquet and all other arrangements made by our designer. Flower Tips

Re-cut the flower stems about 1 to 2 inches underwater using a sharp knife every other day. By cutting the stems under water, the stems are sealed with water and air cannot clog the stem cells with fewer bacteria to form, thus, allowing the flowers to last a longer life!  Also, cut the stems diagonally.  By doing this, you more importantly create a greater surface area for the flower to take in water and less importantly prevent less surface area of the stem to rest on the bottom of the vase.

Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, it is tradition for some to place flowers on the grave of those who have fallen while in service to our country.  It is common to see families purchase flowers in bulk (typically in red, white, or blue) to place on the gravesites of men and women who have died while serving the United States. If families have closer loved ones who have died while serving, larger pieces such as a wreath is typical for a gravesite. Flowers are a perfect way to help express the emotions of those who are still living.  To quote author Norah T. Hunter, “Flower arranging is an art form that enhances the quality of life. From birth to death flowers and floral arrangements heal sadness and sorrow and give comfort to the living.  Flowers give inspiration and hope in times of illness and despair.  They express emotions from deep within the soul, that often cannot be expressed with words. Symbolic of life and vitality, fresh flowers celebrate the happy and joyous occasions of life” (The Art of Floral Design).  This Memorial Day, remember your fallen service men and women in some fashion whether it be placing a flower on a gravesite, taking a moment of silence, or flying your flag at half-mast.
